Dr Anthony Chisakuta

Colleagues

It is with regret that we must inform you of the death of Anthony Chisakuta.

Anthony was a great friend and colleague. He was dedicated to the care of children in Northern Ireland and was an inspiration to many. His influence remains in the Children’s hospital among the consultants he mentored and encouraged to enter paediatric anaesthesia and PICU training. “What would Tony do?” is still a commonplace thought when faced with a complex case. He was not only a superb clinician but a fantastic teacher to both colleagues and junior staff that he came into contact with.

After retiring from the NHS, he returned to Zambia where he was dedicated to improving the provision of anaesthesia through education. He is remembered as a larger than life character who brought joy to those around him and his beaming smile and deep chuckle will be sadly missed.

We pay tribute to and sincerely thank our anaesthetic colleagues in the Ulster Hospital who cared for him during his final illness.

He is survived by his wife, Emma, to whom we send our condolences.

Funeral arrangements are to be confirmed.
